2012 Mercedes-Benz SL Roadster convoy was spy photographed in Spain

A convoy of camouflaged Mercedes-Benz SL prototypes, which were accompanied by several other vehicles wearing the well-known star on their bonnet, was spy photographed in Spain last week by a car enthusiast, named Frank. Frank stated that he was on a trip to the south of Spain and he could not be happier to see the next SL, embodied by a heavily camouflaged Mercedes-Benz Coupe/Cabriolet. Despite the heavy cladding, a simple glimpse at the pictures makes us realize that the two-piece folding hard top from the predecessor is kept by the new generation model. Its styling will most probably be inspired from the German firm's more "artsy" design philosophy, which could be noticed on the recent concept models, such as the F800 Style, together with the latest CLS, along with a more aggressive front grille. Key components, such as electrical systems and the suspension bits are expected to be shared by both models as the 2012 SL was developed alongside the SLS Gullwing. No information was released concerning the engine, but there are some rumors which suggest that an entry-level V6 as well as the usual lineup of V8 units incorporating an upgraded V12 for the flagship version and possibly, Merc's newly developed 5.5-liter bi-turbo V8 for the AMG model.
