 The new car is 55 kg lighter (over 120 lbs.) and is powered by a mid-mounted 3.4-litre six-cylinder boxer engine that makes 10 more horsepower (up to 330) than the Cayman S. The responsive part is delivered courtesy of a specially adapted sports chassis for an even more precise driving experience.

Weight savings were realized through the use of lightweight materials and doing without some of the comfort and convenience equipment found in many of today’s luxury cars. For example, the 19-inch wheel set on the Cayman R weighs a combined 40 kg (about 88 lbs.) or 10 kg per rim. An optional lithium ion battery reduces weight further. Also of note, interior door handles were removed in favour of ribbon door pulls.
